About Kalita Wave Stainless Steel Pour Over Coffee Maker
The Kalita Wave stainless steel dripper is one of the most forgiving and consistent pour-over brewers available. Kalita's signature flat-bottom design with three small drainage holes and the patented 20-wave filter creates insulating air pockets between the filter and dripper walls, stabilising brew temperature and encouraging a steady, even drawdown across the entire coffee bed. The result is a balanced, reliable extraction that's more forgiving than single-hole cone drippers - making it a strong choice for both those new to pour-over and experienced baristas who want consistency with flavour nuance.
The polished stainless steel construction is built to last - durable enough to survive being dropped on concrete and come out unscathed. Available in two sizes: the 155 for 1-2 cups (up to 300ml) and the 185 for 2-5 cups (300-750ml).
Quick-start brewing notes - Use Kalita Wave-specific filter papers, available separately. Aim for a brew ratio of around 60g of coffee per litre of water - similar to V60 or Chemex.
Over the years Kalita have refined the Wave dripper to improve durability and brewing consistency. Earlier generations featured a riveted brass handle which looked beautiful but could suffer from corrosion over time - this has since been upgraded to a spot-welded stainless steel handle, sturdier and easier to care for. On the inside, older versions used welded inserts at the base to support the filter paper and encourage even flow. Kalita have since moved to precision-punched supports instead, which achieve the same effect with greater consistency from one brewer to the next.
