When Jane Luo and her partner started growing coffee at Yirong Farm in 1987, their coffee was one of the first coffee plantations grown on the outskirts of Menglian in Yunnan. Today, more than 30 years later, her daughter, Jean Luo, is working with her mother, Jane, to take the next step and expand her business to export.
This certified organic coffee uses compost to fertilize the coffee trees, eliminating the need for chemical pesticides. The farm is watered throughout the year by a mountain spring.
Everything is selected by hand and pulped in a mechanical water pulper. The pulped coffee is then fermented in tile lined cement tanks for 24 to 30 hours. After fermentation, the parchment is cleaned in the wash channels and allowed to dry in raised beds for 30 to 38 days.
