Brazil Katia Belo & Cristiene Coffee (200g)
According to legend, the first coffee was planted in Brazil in 1727 by Francisco de Melo Palheta. The Portuguese, who occupied Brazil at the time, were keen on getting into the lucrative coffee market, but were unable to obtain seeds from neighbouring French Guiana. Palheta was sent to French Guiana on a diplomatic mission to resolve a border dispute and managed to smuggle some coffee seeds out by seducing the governor’s wife who secretly gave him a bouquet with the coffee seeds hidden amongst the flowers.

These days, coffee in Brazil accounts for almost a third of all coffee produced around the world. The farm Cafe Pico do Bone in the town of Araponga-Mg is run by Katia, Cristiene, and their family, which they inherited from their father. Since taking on the farm agronomist Cristiene and her sister have managed to achieve SCA scores as high as 87.7 and they continue to excel.
