Burundi Businde Coffee

The Businde washing station, owned by Zuberi Mastiti of Matraco Coffee, is located in Kayanza which is close to the Rwanda border. The centralised station processes the cherry of up to 650 surrounding farming families; serving as a nucleus within the community. Having such a localised position provides support through staff, funds, construction and distribution of agricultural products. By working with the Businde station, local producers received a premium that was 20% more than the market rate this season and the station itself pays its staff almost 60% above the rate of casual labour in Burundi. Matraco Coffee aids nearby farmers by distributing coffee pulp, which acts as fertiliser, and also donates seedlings to their farms to help improve their yield. This coffee was sourced by Raw Material who partner with Zuberi Mastiti. They work to secure higher profits for coffee producers and washing stations, ensuring that they receive 100% of profits.
