Our Broadway Blend emphasises closer relationships with many of the same coffees selected each year for their unique representations of origin and processing.
Both of these Broadway Blend components are regular highlights with Hambella’s natural process having already run as The Fields whilst our annual Esperança shipments are a treasure trove of unique experiments. Alternating the processing for this edition we have paired the classic citrus of Hambella’s washed Ethiopian with Esperança’s tree-dried natural process adding a creamy body and sticky sweetness.
Grown at over 1,900m the Hambella farm is home to some of Ethiopia's most sophisticated producers and a regular Climpson favourite. The family-owned METAD agricultural group are specialty coffee pioneers with all coffee hand-picked, sorted and washed before drying on raised beds for up to 3 weeks. Over the last year we have been lucky enough to roast both their washed and natural processed lots with each a trademark representation of floral and fruit-forward Ethiopian coffee.
Fazenda Esperança is run by the famous Bruno de Souza, a true pioneer of Brazilian speciality coffee and one of our transparent partners in coffee sourcing. Situated near Campos Altos in the Cerrado Mineiro region, Fazenda Esperança is seen as an industry innovator in pushing for the separation of specific varieties and improving processing. Having sent 3 different lots this year, we are utilising his tree-dried natural Rubi as the creamy base to this Broadway Blend. This particular process is almost entirely unique to the dry Cerrado climate, whereby everything can be left to dry on the tree rather than picking at a specific ripeness. This goes beyond the typical Brazilian flavour profile with the slower drying leading to a dense concentration of dried fruit and vanilla tasting notes.
